Originally from Wisconsin, Dr. Jacob “Jake” Hinkley joined OSMC in 2023.

He attended the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry in 2013. In 2017, Dr. Hinkley earned his medical degree from Des Moines University, Des Moines, Iowa, while he simultaneously earned a Master’s degree in Anatomy.

Dr. Hinkley completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan in 2022. During this time, he served as Chief Resident and was appointed as clinical faculty at Michigan State University.

In 2022-23, he gained further instruction within a rigorous fellowship focused on adult reconstruction and arthroplasty at the Center for Orthopedic Research & Education (CORE) Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. As a Fellow, Dr. Hinkley was trained in complex revision surgery of the hip and knee, partial knee replacement, and multiple technologies including surgical computer navigation and robotics. He has also participated in multiple scholarly works including topics such as reducing blood loss in hip fracture patients, cost analysis in orthopedic surgery, radiation exposure, etc.

He is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

His areas of specialized expertise include primary hip and knee replacement and revision of hip and knee replacements. Revision may be necessary for individuals who demand a lot from their joints or for individuals with older implants that may have worn down significantly over time. A joint revision procedure can be complex and challenging for both the recipient and surgeon, especially if the original implant must be removed. Dr. Hinkley also specializes in the treatment of fractures of the appendicular skeleton, which includes the shoulder girdle (clavicle and scapula) or pelvis. Plus, he offers care for soft tissue injuries of the knee, hip, and shoulder.

Dr. Hinkley enjoys spending time with his family, watersports, attending college/professional football games, and playing golf. He loves the Midwest and he’s pleased to join a strong medical community in Indiana.
